Long block and short block
A short block is the engine block with crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, pistons with rings, cylinders and oil pump. A long block also includes the cylinder head. When an overhaul with individual parts takes too long, an assembly is the faster solution.
What to prepare for your enquiry
- the ESN (engine serial number) and CPL number from the engine plate
- the engine type (e.g. 6BT5.9) and the machine it powers
- for injectors and pumps: the number from the part housing

What is the difference between a long block and a short block?
A short block is the block with crankshaft, connecting rods, bearings, pistons and cylinders. A long block also includes the cylinder head.
What do I need to send for Cummins parts?
