What a marine gearbox does
The gearbox is the assembly between the engine and the propeller shaft. It engages ahead and astern, provides neutral and, as a rule, reduces the shaft speed to the propeller. Power is transmitted through clutch plates, so they wear over time.
Slipping on engagement, slow bite or overheating gearbox oil can be a sign that the clutch plates need inspection. When a gearbox is opened for the plates, it is worth replacing the seal kit at the same time. For the work itself we will refer you to experienced service technicians.
Twin Disc gearbox models
We supply parts for models in the MG series (e.g. MG-340, MG-360, MG-5050, MG-5061, MG-5065, MG-5075, MG-5082, MG-5091, MG-6600DC), the MGX series (e.g. MGX-5065, MGX-5075, MGX-5114, MGX-5136, MGX-6620) and the MGN series (MGN-1814V to MGN-1819V).
Worn engine mounts transmit vibration to the gearbox, so they are worth checking whenever work is done on the gearbox.
